# Create Contacts Backup
|
||||||
|
1. Open Google Contacts (contacts.google.com)
|
||||||
|
2. Click on the **Export button** with an arrow pointing up out of a half box in the header row.
|
||||||
|
3. Select Export as **vCard**, then click **Export**
|
||||||
|
4. Find the VCF file that was automatically downloaded, usually in the Downloads folder, and rename it to `YYYY-MM-DD Contacts Backup.vcf`
|
||||||
|
5. Move the backup file to your network backup folder.

# Create Google Drive Backup
|
||||||
|

||||||
|
There are two ways to create a backup of your Google Drive data.
|
||||||
|
1. Directly from the Google Drive web interface (faster)
|
||||||
|
2. Using Google Takeout
|
||||||
|
|
||||||
|
## Creating a Backup of Google Drive From Web Interface
|
||||||
|
|
||||||
|
1. Open Google Drive from your browser (https://drive.google.com)
|
||||||
|
2. Click on "My Drive" on the left menu
|
||||||
|
3. Press `Ctrl-A` to select all files and folders
|
||||||
|
4. Click the Download button as shown in the screenshot below ![[Pasted image 20240523170337.png|500]]
|
||||||
|
5. You will see a notification in the lower right corner of your browser indicating that Google is compressing (zipping) the files up in preparation for download.
|
||||||
|
6. Once the download is ready you will see a box pop up asking where you want to save the file. You can choose to save to your "Downloads" folder or another folder of your choice.
|
||||||

7. Move the backup file to your network backup folder.
|
||||||

## Creating a Backup of Google Drive Using Google Takeout
|
||||||
|
|
||||||
|
1. Open Google Takeout from your browser (https://takeout.google.com)
|
||||||
|
2. Under "Create a new export", Google automatically selects most of the products by default. Click the "Deselect all" link
|
||||||
|
3. Now, with no products selected, scroll down to "Drive" and click the box to select it.
|
||||||
|
4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Next step".
|
||||||
|
5. On the "Choose file type, frequency, and destination", leave everything default except for "File size". Change this to "10GB".
|
||||||
|
6. Click "Create export".
|
||||||
|
7. The export process can sometimes take a while but once it completes, you will receive an email with a link to download your Google Drive data.
|
||||||
|
8. Once you've downloaded your data, it will be zipped, move it to your network backup folder.
